Generic

Hydrocortisone + Neomycin Sulphate + Polymixin B

Indications

Ear drops containing hydrocortisone, Neomycin Sulphate, and Polymixin B are recommended for the treatment of bacterial ear infections. It is ineffective for other forms of ear infections. Any antibiotic's efficacy might be reduced if it is used unnecessarily or excessively.

Pharmacology

Antibiotics are a class of drugs that include polymyxin B sulphate and neomycin sulphate. They eliminate the bacteria that cause ear infections. The combination's anti-infective components are incorporated to offer action against certain organisms sensitive to them. Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella-Enterobacter species, Neisseria species, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are all resistant to neomycin sulfate and polymyxin B sulfate. This medication is ineffective against Serratia marcescens and streptococci, including Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Hydrocortisone is a kind of medication known as a steroid. It aids in the reduction of swelling and discomfort produced by the illness. Hydrocortisone suppresses the inflammatory response to a number of substances and may cause healing to be delayed. Because hydrocortisone may reduce the body's defensive system against infection, a concurrent antimicrobial medication may be administered if this suppression is deemed clinically relevant in a specific situation.
