Caffeine is an alkaloid that is a xanthine derivative similar to theophylline. By intermolecular binding with paracetamol, caffeine increases the solubility and membrane permeability of paracetamol. In addition, caffeine increases pain threshold and pain tolerance. Caffeine also has the ability to increase the tone of vessels in the brain, providing another benefit for treating migraines and headaches.
