Aluminium Hydroxide + Magnesium Hydroxide

Indications

Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide are suitable for hyperacidity, peptic ulcer, gastritis, heartburn, gastric acid and indigestion.

Pharmacolgy

This drug is a balanced combination of essential non-systemic antacids and is known for its efficacy and palatability. These are reliable antacids and have no acid reflux, constipation or catheterization effects. Both of these preparations can relieve symptoms of hyperacidity caused by heartburn, gastric acid intake or gastric acid.

Aluminum Hydroxide Gel is a slow-acting antacid and long-acting adsorbent, with strong neutralizing ability. Magnesium hydroxide has slow but continuous acid neutralization properties. The antacids in tablets and suspensions have adsorption properties. They form a protective layer on the surface of the ulcer to promote its healing; thereby protecting the sensitive stomach and duodenal mucosa from further irritation.

Dosage & Administration

Tablet: Two tablets 1-3 hours after meal and at bed time or as directed by the physician.

Suspension: 2 tea spoonful 1-3 hours after meal and at bed time or as directed by the physician.

Interaction

This drug inhibits the absorption of the following drugs: azithromycin, cefpodoxime, ciprofloxacin, isoniazid, rifampicin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, pitavacillin, tetracycline, gabapentin and phenytoin, itrax Conazole, ketoconazole, chloroquine and chloroquine.

Contraindications

This is a contraindication to hypophosphatemia. It is also contraindicated in alkalosis and hypermagnesemia, where the bloating may be due to partial or complete intestinal obstruction.

Side Effects

The long-term use of any antacid will produce alkaline urine, which can easily lead to kidney stones by forming calcium phosphate precipitation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

It is recommended to avoid antacids during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Precautions & Warnings

Taking antacids at the same time will reduce the absorption of tetracycline. These should not be used at the same time.
