Indications

Nasal congestion caused by acute or chronic rhinitis, the common cold, sinusitis, upper respiratory allergies, epistaxis, and hay fever is treated with Oxymetazoline Hydrochlorid. It's also used to treat otitis media as a nasal decongestant.

Pharmacology

Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic amine that is derived from imidazoline. It acts as a direct agonist on -adrenoceptors but not on -adrenoceptors. When applied topically to the nasal mucosa, it causes a quick and long-acting vasoconstriction of the arterioles, which reduces blood flow and reduces mucosal edema. As a result, the airway's potency improves, and the nasal sinuses drain more effectively.
